Rachel's Children Fund

As some of you may know my beautiful daughter, Rachel, died in her home in Cameron Park, California  Monday, February 27.  Her husband, Todd Winkler, is in custody.  The Eldorado County Court has given me guardianship of the three children Eva 4, Ariel 2, and Alex 9 months.  They will live with me in Napa, California.

There has been a tremendous outpouring of love and sympathy.  I have a team of friends and family currently looking for a large house where I can paint and raise the children with the help of a nanny.  A children's fund has been established in Rachel's name to receive monetary gifts.  The following information will guide those of you who want to contribute.  Thank you and God bless you.  Rachel now joins my beautiful wife, Janey, who left us January 21 of this year.  I am comforted by the love of God who grants me knowledge that the two women who meant the most to me are safe and beautiful in His presence.  We will join them someday in that home prepared for us where there will be no more tears and where we will never loose those we love again.  Don Hatfield

  1. Don, I am sitting here just stunned. Although we have never met, I feel that I know you so well from your open sharing.

I can't imagine what you are feeling. Maybe stunned too?

I will absolutely donate to your daughter's fund to help you out.

I am so glad to here you will have help with the children. I had my grandson living with me for six months and it was not easy. I am also glad that your sweet babies will be safe with you. All my best.

  3. Don, when I read your post earlier today, I was absolutely speechless and could think of nothing to say. No one should have to cope with so much tragedy in a single year or lifetime. You know you are aiming right to look to the Lord to see you through, like in the lyrics of R. Kelly's song "I Look to You". To have lost your dear daughter in this way and to suddenly be coping with a second parenthood later in life, just when you thought it was time to paint, this must so hard and overwhelming too. You, and your departed family members, your grandkids, and your art will be in my prayers.

  5. Don, please accept my deepest sympathy. I really had no idea this had happened to your daughter. She is surely at Janie's side now watching over you all. Your grandchildren are blessed to have you in their lives, so close, and with so much love to give. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

  6. Don,
J clooe and I can not begin to express the sadness Rachel's passing has caused us. Our kids are all close in age, a connection we enjoyed sharing together. I know Joe has many great memories of Rachel and your whole family. Rachel was a pure and beautiful soul. She's greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to you and the entire Hatfield family.
